Easy Window Cleaning Guide

By April 28, 2020January 18th, 2021No Comments

What’s the easiest way to clean your windows? Paper towels and a good spray cleaner, right? Wrong. Not only is this method one of the most expensive and wasteful ways, but it’s also one of the least effective.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a window cloth that could be used over and over… and you only pay for it once? Well, it’s time to meet the Vileda 2-in-1 window cleaner.

Let us tell you how you can get squeaky-clean windows in five easy steps.

Before you get started with cleaning your windows, there are a few factors you should take into consideration:

If it’s a gloriously sunny Maltese day, then hold off cleaning windows until a few clouds appear. Although it might be easier to see smears on a sunny day, in actual fact the sun drying the windows too quickly is usually the cause of multiple streaks appearing in the first place.

We all know how dusty things can get here, especially when the Sahara winds hit the islands, but it’s genuinely much easier to wash windows after removing dust – so vacuum the frames and sills first. Doing so will also ensure there’s no silty, grimy mess left on the floor afterwards.

This isn’t exactly a must, but if you’re doing an annual, thorough cleaning blitz, it makes a lot of sense, especially if your window dressings are: (a) in the way and (b) likely to be dirtied easily by drips and splashes.

Finally, if you are working on the inside of your home, remember to place an old towel on the ground to absorb any excess water.

First, get yourself a high-quality Vileda 2-in-1 window cleaner to make your window cleaning experience a whole lot faster. You can find one from your favourite supermarket’s online shop!

Next, dampen the microfibre pad with water. Too much water will cause excessive streaking due to moisture being left behind, while too little will make the cloth act more like a dust cloth. Don’t stress if you notice water marks appearing on the glass. The key is to wipe off the streak before the water dries.

Wipe the window dry using the clean, rubber-bladed squeegee side of the handheld 2-in-1 cleaner. You’ll notice the cleaner has a trapezoidal shape to better reach corners. Angle the squeegee towards the bottom of the window and work from top to bottom. After, wipe the squeegee with a clean, dry towel at the bottom of each pass.

For really stubborn dirt and stains, including bird droppings, saturate the microfibre pad thoroughly with vinegar and water and let it settle for several minutes before cleaning. You can also try rubbing the dirt with the soft, “scrubbie” sponge part of the cleaner, but do not be tempted to use steel wool or harsh scrubbing cloths; these will scratch your windows.

The 2-in-1 Window Cleaner comes with a super useful handle which will extend your reach up to 160cm. It also has a flexible head that will get to those awkward tough spots.

After you have mastered the art of easy window cleaning, put the kettle on, step back and admire the view through your sparkling clean windows. Achieving crystal-clear windows will no longer be a chore thanks to Vileda’s 2-in-1 window cleaner. Bonus: you won’t need to open the front door any more to check the weather!
